Once you decide to start trading forex there are so many things you need to know and to do to eventually get to the point where you are good enough to be successful at forex trading. There are things that you must understand completely before you start and there are things that you can learn on the job so to speak. One of the most important things to prepare for is the time the needed research will consume once you start. Research will be your companion for most of the first few months of forex trading and a frequent companion long after that and for as long as you trade. Research will be needed from start to finish.

Learn the fundamentals of forex trading.

That is the very first thing you should do when you start to trade forex. The second thing is to find a brokerage firm or person you can work with. Next you should open up a demo account, I recommend purchasing a great piece of forex software because they usually include the option of trading with "fake" money before you move on to real money. The one I would have chosen when I began if I knew then what I know now would have been Triad (see sidebar) because it includes everything you will need during your forex trading carreer. It isn't cheap money-wise but it is priceless in time saved and fundamental forex education along with including a great selection of automatic forex trading software tools.

Research is the key. Current events are the combination.

Politics and forex trading go hand in hand, any forex trader worth his salt knows this. You will figure this out pretty fast but I wanted to give you a head start. Currency is what you will be trading in and the political atmosphere of a given country generally can affect the currency.

The Most Important Thing To Know.

No matter how good you become at forex trading it is still in very many ways gambling. You should have a plan in place, as any good gambler will tell you, so you don't go overboard. Emotions are totally human but forex trading is the worst place in the world to be swept up in them.
